Ahead of the visit to Inverness and with just two Premiership games left, United sit level with St Johnstone on 53 points but hold a narrow three goal advantage in the race for fourth place.
By Graeme Webster
Therefore, the battle will no doubt go down to the wire. If we manage to win this battle, all eyes will shift to the Scottish Cup final and a Caley victory which would then see United benefit from an additional European spot for the team finishing in fourth place and we will all be looking forward to competing on the continent for the first time since 2012.
With this information available and also furnished with the knowledge of St Johnstone’s result (They play at home to Celtic on Friday night) United head up the A9 for the second time in 12 days. The Tannadice side will be hoping both the weather and outcome will differ from their last visit. In torrential rain, United lost an early one goal advantage to fall to a 2-1 defeat. Time will tell what frame of mind Caley players will be in for this one, having already secured third place, but with a Cup Final looming this might be an opportunity for PFA Manager of the year John Hughes to shuffle the pack.
United's performances and results have improved over the last few weeks and Manager McNamara will be hoping this recovery continues so that the Club can finish the season on a high. United also have the added incentive that if they win their last two games they will beat their points total for last season. With two games left to go in this roller coaster season there is still plenty to play for. With Callum Morris struggling through injury, John Souttar may be asked to settle back into a central defensive position but that decision will be left as long as possible.
One last big push is required from both players and supporters. Play your part!
Come On United!
