Tough Fixtures The Right Choice

13th July 2015

Ahead of the upcoming match versus AZ Alkmaar, manager Jackie McNamara talked about the impact of the three demanding fixtures in Netherlands and how it will stand the team in good stead for the season ahead. Speaking to the Club website, Jackie said, “I see no point in us playing pre season games against vastly inferior opposition and running up a big score. At this time it is about preparing for the season. We are playing three games over here against opposition who are better than anything we will face in the Ladbrokes Premiership campaign.” Despite this, the manager still wants to see improvement in both defence and attack against AZ. “AZ are a good team, as good if not better than Vitesse Arnhem so it will be another tough game but I want to see us tighten up defensively. The goals we lost were not good regardless of it being first game of the trip. I also want to see us get sharper in front of goal. We created several good chances in the game yet didn't score. “I am confident we will be primed for the start of the campaign and thats the most important thing for United.” Updates from the game, which kicks off at 7.00pm (CET) in Dirkshorn, will be available on the Club’s social media channels and highlights of the match will be available on ArabZONE.
