Just eleven weeks since closing last season with a clinical 3-0 home win over rivals Dundee, the first city derby of this season will be hosted at Tannadice again on Tuesday evening.

Both sides are massively changed from last season in terms of personnel and have made similar starts to this campaign with a loss and a win in their two matches played so far.
A preview of this game cannot be completed without reflecting back on United's results against the Dens Park side which, apart from one blip, represented many of the high points from last season. An aggregate score across all five matches of 15 goals to 6 in favour of the Tangerines with 4 victories versus a single defeat meant that bragging rights were firmly held in favour of United. The undoubted highlight across all of these was the now famous 6-2 win on New Years' day, a game for all that witnessed it will be celebrated forever more.
Make no mistake though, our record from last season will not lead to any complacency within the Terrors ranks on the night. Rightly, this should breed confidence, but for several players on both sides this will be their first taste of a Dundee Derby so last seasons encounters will hold no meaning to them come kick off. In their first day defeat of Kilmarnock the Dark Blues received many plaudits for their display in the 4-0 victory therefore the strength shown in the defence against Aberdeen and Motherwell so far will be required again to build a platform on which to go and achieve the win.
In terms of the team Jackie McNamara has some players missing for selection including Paul Paton and Rodney Sneijder. It remains to be seen if any of Mario Bilate, Calum Morris or Ryan Dow will come into contention having suffered injury problems recently. Another interesting factor will be whether McNamara will go with the same midfield who despite their tender years performed so well at Fir Park on Saturday. The experience of John Rankin could be used to help the youthful line up deal with what promised to be another heated battle under the Tannadice lights.
As the game nears a sell out let's ensure all remaining home tickets are snapped up and on the night we can provide the backing which was a massive influence on these occasions last season. Let's hope we can start to write another success story similar to last season against our City rivals.
Come on United !!!
