John Souttar sees his inclusion in the Scotland Under-21 squad facing Northern Ireland on 5 September as further proof that the Club is doing things correctly. He is delighted to be called up and expects to see more team mates join in the near future.
Speaking to
ArabZONE after hearing the news, the 19-year-old said: “It shows that Dundee United are doing things right. We are quite a young team and, although it may take time and mistakes will happen, I think we will see more of our players involved within future squads.”
In typical John Souttar easy going attitude, he revealed he wasn't even aware that a squad announcement was imminent.
“I didn’t even know there was an announcement coming and it was one of the boys this morning that told me I was in. It is always nice to get called up and I would love to be involved in the game at some point. I have played most of my football in midfield this season but I would happily play in defence or midfield for my country.”
John praised fellow call-up Charlie Telfer and suggested Ricky Sbragia’s knowledge of both Charlie and himself from lower levels had perhaps played a part in their inclusion.
“Charlie has had a good start to the season and deserves to be included and Ricky has worked with us at Under-19s level and knows what we do, so he is obviously confident of us playing our part.
“I am delighted to be in the squad and looking forward to it very much.”
The UEFA European Under-21 Championship Qualifier Northern Ireland v Scotland takes place on 5th September 2015 at Mourneview Park, Lurgan with a 2pm kick-off.
