Charlie Telfer admits that his pleasant surprise at being included within the Scotland Under 21 squad for the UEFA European Under 21 Championship 2015/16 qualifying match versus Northern Ireland in Lurgan on Saturday 5 September was matched by the surprise that a few of his team mates hadn't beaten him to it.
“I found out yesterday that it was going to be announced but I certainly wasn't expecting a call-up. Players like Blair Spittal, Aidan Connolly and Scott Fraser possibly deserve to be included so I am sure these guys will get looked at sooner rather than later.
“I am very happy with the news, it always is a bonus being involved and hopefully we get a good result.”
Charlie feels that there is more to come from him at Club level and wants to see more goals from his forward midfield role this coming season.
“I haven’t been disappointed with my performance levels but I know I can play a bit better. I would like to score a few more goals than I am. Against Motherwell I had a good few opportunities and if I keep getting into those areas the goals will come. Being included within the international squad gives you a confidence boost.
Charlie feels team mate John Souttar’s inclusion was an obvious choice, saying: “John has been excellent this season. He helps the team connect from back to front and is good on the ball so it wasn’t a surprise that he has been included.”
