PLAYING STAFF SCRUTINY - THEN PRUNING

2nd May 2001

Alex Smith has placed his entire playing staff under scrutiny as he seeks out a game plan for the club for next season.

To that end he travelled all the way north to Dingwall on Tuesday to view the club's Under-18's in action in the 1-1 draw with Ross County. He pointed out, "I am no different from any other manager in the game - the make-your-mind-up time has arrived. The pruning of the staff must take place to allow for additions."

The Manager's plans are of course subject to change once the outcome of the current SPL situation is resolved. Smith plans to continue his ongoing signing talks with the likes of Paul Gallacher and Craig Easton, while he made it clear that he wants Jamie Fullarton at the Club next season. It is five months since the former Crystal Palace man was sidelined after a horror injury, but he has fought back in his fitness race to earn the admiration of everyone at the Club.

Added the boss, "Such is Jamie's enthusiasm that we have had to hold him back this week because of a leg strain". The player himself is adamant that he makes it back into competitive action before the end of the season.
