United were today defeated in a bitterly disappointing 2-1 loss at McDiarmid Park.

There were four changes to the starting eleven from Tuesday evening's victory over Dunfermline, in came Sean Dillon, John Souttar, Blair Spittal and Adam Taggart for Jamie Robson, Aaron Kuhl, Charlie Telfer and Darko Bodul.
United opened the scoring from the spot at 25 minutes, Alan Mannus bundling over Billy McKay after they both looked to catch onto a through-ball. Up-stepped Mckay, who coolly converted from the spot.
Just after 50 minutes, Adam Taggart had a huge chance to add a second, however, the striker could only hit a tame strike into the arms of substitute Saints keeper Zander Clark.
Just ten minutes after Taggart's golden opportunity to put real daylight between the two sides, St Johnstone scored an equalizer, Graham Cummins finishing close-range from a Saints corner.
With just over ten minutes remaining, substitute Aidan Connolly curled a well struck 25 yard effort just over Zander Clark's crossbar.
Just as United looked as if they were beginning to really pressurise the Saints defence with Connolly, Spittal and Bilate coming close, a dinked Simon Lappin volley put Saints into the lead with less than ten minutes remaining.
United only really had one chance in the closing stages of the match, newly recovered striker Mario Bilate hitting a wild shot over the target.
