CAUTIOUS APPROACH FOR PERTH VISIT

8th May 2001

Both Jamie McCunnie and Craig Easton missed training on Tuesday, but neither are considered to be serious doubts for Saturday's vital trip to Perth.

Teenage full-back McCunnie picked up an ankle knock during Sunday's win over Dunfermline at Tannadice, while midfielder Easton has a slight problem with his knee. "I'm sure both Jamie and Eastie will be in the squad for the St Johnstone game," commented boss Alex Smith.

With a large travelling support expected to take advantage of the free bus travel, Smith wants the fans to have plenty to shout about at McDiarmid Park. But at the same time he is pleading for caution as United seek out the victory which would virtually assure SPL safety.

"We will travel to Perth looking for a victory but the plan is to play organised and concentrated football," he said. "In our last two games, we gave Motherwell and Dunfermline very few chances and that's what we will be looking for again against St Johnstone."
