Cometh the hour, cometh the man. If there is a time to deliver, this is it.
By Gordon Aitchison
The talk has been about a 'cup final’, a ‘must win game’ and ‘the biggest game for United this season'. It is all of these. Quite simply, defeat will leave us with a monumental task to stay in the Ladbrokes Premiership; victory opens the door to survival. The world of media has been preparing itself with the obituary of our season and opponents smell blood. Nothing will be settled in reality but victory will give belief that we can rescue the season. Fans are responding to the Club’s efforts to encourage a bigger crowd by introducing an offer to allow those with a Voucher K to gain entry for only £5 and that should encourage a loud Tangerine Army. Everything is in place for a tumultuous, nervy, exciting occasion.
Saturday's opponents Kilmarnock will arrive at Tannadice in high spirits after a well fought and deserved win against Inverness last week. The last time Killie came calling they left with all three points after a dramatic Kevin McHattie drive won them the game in the dying minutes. They have won only two of their last ten games and find themselves among a clutch of teams on 24 points. Consistency seems to be the main culprit for Kilmarnock’s stuttering season, but the recent renewal of promising teenager Greg Kiltie combined with their improved form, winning seven points from possible twelve since Christmas, will see them arrive on Tayside with a hope to put further distance between them and Dundee United.
For United, the Head Coach will have almost a full squad to choose from this weekend with Billy Mckay likely to return to the front line and, with Ryan Dow and Paul Paton seeing some first team action last week, their return to full fitness could not come at a better time. United will be without Paul Dixon, who is suspended and Cal Morris is side-lined with injury. In his recent Arabzone interview, Mixu heaped praise on the United fans for their support in a difficult season and he is looking forward to more of the same this weekend.
C’mon United , Let’s open that door!
