The Dundee United Academy sent a 19-man Under 16/17s squad down to the Oakham tournament last week to face up against teams from all over the globe and came home as champions.

The trip, financed by the Dundee United Youth Development Board, ensured the youngster played competitive games against real strong opposition representing some of the top clubs in England and beyond.

Under the guidance of coaches Brian Grant, Shaun Baxter and Lee Wilkie the young terrors started day one strongly with a 2-0 victory over AS Roma USA. This excellent result was followed by a 1-0 triumph over Burnley before losing out by a singular goal to Manchester United.

Day two witnessed the young terrors lose out to Leicester City and then defeat Chelsea - both by one goal margins.

Going into day three, the young terrors knew they had to win both their games and ensure a six goal swing to reach the play-off final. They achieved this, firstly defeating SBI Slagelse by six goals to nil and then defeating the previously undefeated Brommapojkarna 1-0.

The young terrors were up against Manchester United in the final - a team to whom they had lost 1-0 on day one - but a superb performance by the young terrors ended with a 2-0 victory and the title of 2002 Tournament Champions.

The team will be paraded on the park at Tannadice at half-time during Saturday's Ladbroke Championship fixture versus Brechin.

Tickets for this fixture are available here.
