On Tuesday night, Dundee United Community Trust hosted an educational event with parents, pupils and teachers from the five schools that took part in the Trust’s Shoot Back in Time event – Dens Road, Our Lady’s, Rosebank, SS Peter and Paul’s and St. Pius.
The project aimed to engage pupils in learning about local and personal WWI Heritage and was very generously funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund First World War: Then and Now Fund. The pupils learned about a number of topics including Dundee Hibernian, the role of football around WWI and the importance of the suffragette movement in Dundee. Pupils also got to visit Scottish Football Museum at Hampden Park, the HMS Unicorn and Verdant Works.
The event gave children the chance to share their learning with the wider community through posters they designed during the project, PowerPoint presentations and talking through some of the topics in their learning pack. Thank you to all the pupils who took part and for the support from the schools throughout the entire project. Plus a huge thank you to Heritage Lottery Fund for the support to be able to deliver the project!
