DUNDEE UNITED PARA-FOOTBALL CLUB LAUNCH

Dundee United Community Trust is delighted to announce the launch of Dundee United Para Football Club.

Dundee United Para-Football Club is dedicated to providing opportunities for those living with a disability to engage in sport with their peers. This will be done via four main areas of delivery: mental, learning, physical & sensory.

At present, Dundee United Para-Football Club, through Dundee United Community Trust, delivers Children’s Physical Disability Football, Amputee Football for adults and football sessions for adults living with ill mental health. Over time, DUPFC will expand on the projects it delivers to provide more opportunities to even more people.

Paul Wilson, Community Coaching Manager, commented: “The launch of Dundee United Para-Football Club is a very exciting time for everyone involved with Dundee United Community Trust. As a charity, we are committed to providing a diverse array of opportunities to those in our community and I firmly believe the launch of Dundee United Para-Football Club is a positive thing for disability sport both in Dundee and the East Region.

"At present, we deliver projects for those living with a physical disability or a mental illness. Our next goals are to provide opportunities for those living with a learning disability and a sensory disability.

"We all remember the wonder goal Tommy McKay, one of our amputee footballers, scored at Tannadice. Dundee United Para-Football Club hopes to unite our community and encourage more people living with a disability to take part in sport."

Jamie Kirk, Head of Operations for Dundee United Community Trust, added “I’m really proud of the work we are doing in para-football.  It’s so important to us that there are opportunities for everyone to get involved in what we do and I can’t wait to see how the new para-football club evolves.”

Graeme Doig, Scottish Disability Sports Tayside Regional Manager, said: “Scottish Disability Sport is delighted to be working in partnership with Dundee United Community Trust to support the development of their para-football club. The opportunity for children with a physical disability to play football with their peers in a safe and fun environment is just the start of many projects we aim to work together on this year.”
