The 2019 Kiltwalk fundraising campaign helped Dundee United Community Trust (DUCT) raise over £10,000 for their annual Festive Friends Christmas Day meal. Thanks to the amazing efforts of the Team DUCT, the Trust was able to raise more than the target for the Festive Friends project and has some funds left over. DUCT is pleased to announce its plans for delivering a lasting legacy from this phenomenal achievement.
Jamie Kirk, Chief Executive for the Trust, said, “We were absolutely thrilled with the level of support shown in last year’s Kiltwalk fundraising campaign, both in terms of the number of fundraisers who signed up to take part and in the level of funds they raised. Being able to support our Christmas Day meal is always the target as it’s such a hard time of year for many. I’m really pleased that thanks to exceeding our target and receiving additional support from within the local community, we have some funds left to help enhance the activities we provide in the local area.”
Christmas Day 2020
The costs of delivering the Christmas Day meal – which is what the funds had been earmarked for – were reduced significantly due to the support of local individuals and businesses. We received many donations for items we would otherwise have had to pay for and this goodwill is something we are very grateful for. We have managed to ring-fence £3,000 for our 2020 Christmas Day Meal and, while we hope to receive similar levels of support from within the local community as we did in 2019, these funds give us a terrific head-start and enable us to begin planning now.
Supporting Current DUCT Activities
We asked the Team DUCT fundraisers to help us select the programmes we currently deliver to receive a welcome boost in funding to sustain vital local services and activities. We are delighted that £3,000 of the underspend has been ring-fenced to support:
· Dundee United Para-Football Club
· Dundee United Girls Academy
· School-based activities – Soccer Centres and Education Programmes
· Tiny Tangerines
· Walking Sports Club – Football and Netball
Brand New Project: Supporting People Throughout the Year
Our Christmas Day meal is a great way to support people who might otherwise be on their own or who may otherwise not be in a position to enjoy the festivities with their family or friends. We are thrilled to be working on a brand-new project to support people in similar positions all-year round using some of the under-spend from the 2019 Kiltwalk Campaign. This will offer a fantastic legacy and help the Trust in expanding our reach within the local community. More detail on our plans will be released by summer 2020.
You can still help – Kiltwalk 2020
The impact of the 2019 Kiltwalk on Dundee United Community Trust and the people we support was terrific and we can’t wait to do it all again. We are now recruiting Team DUCT 2020 fundraisers and are committed to taking part in all four Kiltwalks across the year:
· Aberdeen
· Dundee
· Edinburgh
· Glasgow
Team DUCT members can take part in one of the events, a combination or all four and, as in previous years, we will cover the sign-up fee for all of our fundraisers and provide an exclusive Team DUCT T-Shirt. We will also aim to support with kilt hire for the events. We already have a few names on our list who are keen to take part again, including some who are aiming to do all four kiltwalks.
For 2020, the fundraising focus will still be our Festive Friends Christmas Day meal but the more funds we raise, the better we can do in and for the local community.
If you would like to take part in any of these kilt walks for Team DUCT and help us to improve the lives of people in Dundee and the surrounding areas, please get in touch with us at michael.malone@dundeeunitedct.co.uk.
