Veteran defender Charlie Mulgrew is solely focused on his duties on the park heading into the final seven matches of the cinch Premiership season as he looks to lead by example and aid United's survival bid.

Better Atmosphere
A feeling of buoyancy is permeating throughout the club following last Sunday's crucial win over Hibernian - a mood which is in stark contrast to the majority of the season so far.
Whilst addressing the broadcast media in St Andrews, he began: "In my experience, the atmosphere in the club is so much better the week after a good result. It brings confidence to the place, we’ve waited long enough for it and hopefully, we can get a few now."
"When you’re on a long run without winning there are some low points and we’ve had some this season. You take it home with you and it lasts for days.
"There was just a huge relief that we got an opportunity which went our way with that last-minute penalty so it was a great feeling that we want more of."
'We Want To Put It Right'
The 37-year-old, now in his 18th season as a professional, has made 19 appearances for the Terrors this season. He admits that 2022/23 has largely been a campaign to forget but recovering the situation is still well within our grasp.
"There are some things that are non-negotiable that we haven’t done well enough this year - intensity, aggression, second balls and the ugly part of the game. We need to bring that on top of everything else that should be the minimum.
"We’re not happy with our own performance this year. We just want to put it right, that goes for everyone in this building. That's not to say we didn’t want to before but football is really hard to explain - there are lots of different factors that go into it. Now we’re in this situation we need to fight our way out of it.
"We’re all fully on board with what the gaffer has to say - we know what we are fighting for and the remit is clear. His training has been very hard and that’s something we’ve responded well to."
Sole Focus
In November, it was announced that Mulgrew had taken his first steps into coaching as he joined our backroom staff to accompany his playing role.
However, since the appointment of Jim Goodwin as Manager, the Glaswegian has taken as step back from his off-field duties to ensure he does everything in his power to keep United in the Premiership as a dependable centre-half.
Briefly touching on this subject, he said "I’m focused on playing - when the manager came in he told me he wanted me to solely focus on that side of the game with the situation we are in.
"I’ve enjoyed just concentrating on my own performance and being a leader within this team - that's where my focus is and on the next seven games. There are no thoughts on anything else."
'Every Game Is Crucial'
Former Scotland skipper Mulgrew was part of the back three which kept a clean sheet on our last visit to Fir Park back in September, and a similar feat will likely have to be achieved should the Terrors wish to walk away from Lanarkshire with maximum points tomorrow.
"Every game is crucial. We know that. We take confidence from the Hibs game and we’re delighted, the week has been good but now we look ahead to the Motherwell game.
"We’ve got a lot of difficult matches coming up but we’ve shown we can win games and fight after teams draw themselves level despite confidence being low.
He continued: "It's a different challenge on Saturday but we look to go and pick the points up.
"It’s always difficult going to Fir Park and it’ll be even harder with the run they are on. Their confidence will be high. It’s another game we need to be ready to battle and turn up for.
"We can’t control other teams' results - it's about what we do. We know if we bring the intensity and the performance it gives us a better chance of getting a result."
