STORY OF THE MATCH | INVERNESS CT (H)

6th November 2023

Dundee United bounced back to put another point on the cinch Championship table with a 1-1 draw against Inverness CT.

An end-to-end first period saw both 'keepers tested. Mark Ridgers' goal came under threat numerous times as Glenn Middleton, Louis Moult and Kevin Holt all went close for the hosts from inside the area, whilst Jack Walton had to be alert to thwart a low Billy McKay effort at the other end.

United's best opportunity of the half fell the way of Scott McMann, recently reliable in front of the target, however the full-back blazed over with the goal at his mercy.

The Terrors' frustration would be compounded five minutes after the restart, as Inverness drew first blood on Tayside. With United caught high up the pitch, a fluid counterattack from the Highland outfit left tangerine shirts chasing shadows, and Nathan Shaw arrived late into the area to put the finishing touch on a sensational fast-break.

However, Jim Goodwin's side wouldn't be behind for long. Kai Fotheringham's near-post corner was met by the head of Kevin Holt who stooped to divert it beyond Ridgers and chalk up his eighth goal of the 2023/24 campaign.

Following the equaliser, one-way traffic flowed towards the Caley goal, but the home side could only carve out one truly clear-cut sighting of goal.

Deep into stoppage time, Moult's flick-on dropped the way of Middleton on the left edge of the six-yard box, and the in-form winger forced a phenomenal reaction save from his opposite number.

The point garnered keeps United four points ahead of nearest challengers Raith Rovers at the top of the table.
