MARK CUNNINGHAM APPOINTED HEAD OF COMMERCIAL

8th May 2024

Dundee United are pleased to announce the appointment of Mark Cunningham as our Head of Commercial.

Mark's first venture into the world of commercial sales came in 2011, as he accepted a position with multi-national energy giant Aggreko in the Middle East.

Climbing the ranks throughout a decade-long stint with the company, Mark was responsible for risk assessment, revenue maximisation and commercial project management as Director of Commercial, splitting his time between both the Dubai and Glasgow-based offices. In his final year with Aggreko, they generated a staggering £1.6bn in revenue.

Latterly, the 42-year-old switched to the renewable energy sector with Fluence, a Siemens and AES firm and market leader in battery storage solutions, whilst also acting as a board member for the Cairn Housing Association.

In 2022, Mark attained a Masters Degree in Football Business, Business Administration and Management from the world-renowned Johan Cruyff Institute.

An Upward Trajectory

Upon the commencement of his role at Tannadice, Mark commented: “I'm delighted to be joining one of the biggest clubs in Scotland - it was an opportunity I couldn't turn down. Our engagement with the local community attracted me to the position, and that's an area I feel it is vital to maintain and strengthen.

“We are on an upward trajectory, having secured promotion back to the Scottish Premiership, and there are strong foundations in place on which to continue the growth of commercial revenue for the club, on both a short and long-term basis.

An Impressive Track Record

Chief Executive, Luigi Capuano, added: “Mark is joining Dundee United at an exciting time and we are incredibly pleased to have him on board. We conducted a thorough recruitment process and he was the outstanding candidate, demonstrating an impressive track record in his previous roles within various multinational organisations.

“We believe he can cope with the high demands of a fast-paced industry to deliver results and I look forward to working with Mark as he drives our commercial strategy and revenue maximisation."

Mark replaces the departed Elliot Shaw, who left Tannadice after two years to pursue an opportunity with global marketing agency SportFive's Borussia Dortmund-focused branch in Dusseldörf, Germany.
