UNITED VICTORIOUS IN FIRST PRE-SEASON TEST

22nd June 2024

Jim Goodwin's side started their 2024/25 preparations with a 2-0 victory over Brechin City this afternoon.

Goals either side of the break from Kai Fotheringham and Tony Watt respectively, were the difference in our first run out this summer.

First Half XI: Richards; Ševelj, Cleall-Harding, Graham; Constable, Docherty, Domeracki, Ferry; Fotheringham, Moult, MacLeod

It was a promising start from the men in tangerine as Louis Moult had the ball in the net inside five minutes - only to be flagged for offside following Ross Docherty’s killer through pass.

Our lead eventually came on 12 minutes. A deep cross by Scott Constable was knocked back across the face by his opposite full-back Will Ferry and knocked home on the volley by the right foot of Fotheringham.

Chances flowed in the first 45 but our number 18's solo strike was the difference at the break.

WHOLESALE CHANGES

It was a clean sweep of substitutions ahead of the restart as we looked to get minutes in the legs.

Second Half XI: Newman (Adams 77'), Grimshaw, Gallagher, Holt (Borland 60'), Forbes, O’Donnell, Sibbald, Middleton; Mwangi, Stirton, Watt

Brandon Forbes looked a constant threat down our right, picking out Watt early in the second period who headed onto the bar.

There was cause for concern as Kevin Holt picked up a nasty head knock, eventually being replaced by Brandon Forbes.

Declan Gallagher twice went close - including another effort off the framework - before our number 32 secured the victory with a ruthless finish from close range five minutes from time.
