DUFCW | Laura Steedman Joins As Player/Coach

9th August 2024

Dundee United FC Women are delighted to announce the signing of Laura Steedman, who joins the club in a dual player-coach capacity.

The centre-back, having spent five years at St Johnstone, makes her first foray off the pitch at Foundation Park.

Steedman admits that playing with added coaching responsibilities was something that started to appeal to her last season, but a big step that she had to consider before doing so.

“Towards the end of last season, being involved in other aspects of the game was appealing and becoming more of a natural progression.”

“I have taken time to consider options, but after speaking with Suzy and Ross and being involved with the staff and squad over recent weeks, I think this is an excellent opportunity to still be active and available to play, while starting to progress and develop other footballing areas behind the scenes such as analysis and coaching.”

“I feel I can offer a lot to the club and the players to help achieve their aims this season whilst continuing to learn and develop. I’m absolutely excited to play my part within the group.”

Adding to her backroom staff, Suzy Shepherd is eager to work with someone she believes is the right fit.

“I am looking forward to working with Laura on and off the pitch. She’s the kind of character we need as she brings experience, motivation and knows how to get the best out of players.”
