Job Title : Head of Recruitment

Place of Work : This role is predominately remote with occasional attendance required at:

- Training Centre, St Andrews, KY16 9DY

- Dundee United Football Club Stadium, CalForth Construction Arena at Tannadice Park, Dundee, DD3 7JW

Status : Full time, Permanent. This will include regular evening and weekend work.

Salary : Competitive

Reporting to : Chief Executive Officer

Key Relationships : Board of Directors, CEO, First Team Manager, external stakeholders

Start Date : Immediate start following completion of PVG.

Purpose:

To lead our player recruitment strategy. The successful candidate will be responsible for identifying and evaluating players who align with the club’s footballing philosophy, financial strategy, and long-term ambitions.

Integrating modern data analytics, video scouting, and traditional scouting expertise, they will play a pivotal role in assembling a competitive squad capable of achieving success. This role requires a strategic thinker with extensive football knowledge, and a proven ability to build high performing teams.

 
Role Responsibilities and Key Duties: 

• Strategic Planning: Develop and implement a comprehensive recruitment strategy aligned with the club’s vision, strategic objectives, budget, and playing philosophy.

• Squad Succession Planning: Maintain a detailed positional succession plan to identify key areas for improvement within the first-team squad.

• Global Scouting Operations: Oversee domestic and international scouting to identify talent at all levels, including undervalued markets and emerging prospects.

• Scouting & Analysis: Conduct live scouting, video analysis, and data-driven evaluations to inform recruitment decisions. Develop, maintain, and lead a small team of video scouts and analysts to identify and assess potential signings.

• Leadership & Collaboration: Oversee the club’s scouting structure and workflow, ensuring efficient processes and regular strategy meetings.

• Negotiation & Acquisition: Initiate negotiations with players and their representatives regarding transfers and contracts, working closely with the Chief Executive.

• Industry Engagement: Build and maintain strong relationships with players, agents, clubs, and external stakeholders to enhance the club’s recruitment network.

• Player Monitoring & Retention: Track player progress, providing recommendations on retention, loan moves, and potential sales to optimise squad management.

• Data-Led Decision Making: Design and implement a recruitment framework that blends data analytics with traditional scouting methods to ensure informed decision-making.

• Market Intelligence: Stay ahead of recruitment trends, identifying emerging player profiles and adapting to shifts in the football landscape

Experience, Training and Personal Qualities

Person Specification

Knowledge, Skills & Experience (Essential):

• Proven track record in a senior scouting or recruitment role at an elite level.

• Experience in designing and implementing recruitment structures within a professional football club.

• Extensive experience in data integrated scouting operations, player profiling, and performance metrics.

• Advanced understanding of football tactics, player attributes and squad building.

• Proficiency with modern scouting platforms (e.g. Wyscout, Hudl, Comparisonator, and bespoke systems)

• Strong industry network with deep knowledge of domestic and international football markets.

• Ability to thrive in a dynamic, high-pressure environment with changing priorities.

• Relentless work ethic and a results driven approach.

• Talent ID qualifications

• PVG to be complete prior to appointment start date

• Full UK Drivers Licence 

Knowledge, Skills and Experience (Desirable):

• Familiarity with compliance and regulatory frameworks related to player recruitment.

• Knowledge of emerging talent markets and undervalued leagues.

• Multilingual abilities to support international recruitment.

• Coaching qualifications (e.g. UEFA licenses) or an academic background in performance analysis.
